옛날, Apple의 Steve Jobs가 키노트·스피치를 할 때마다 대량의 트이트가 흐르고 Twitter가 마비된 것을 기억하고 있을까？ Michael Jackson의 죽음도비슷한 영향을 주었다.그런데 금년의 설날의 일본발의 트이트에 비하면 이러한 사건도 만 잘라 작게 보인다.
오늘의Twitter의 공식 브로그에 의하면, 금년 1월 1일의 오전 0시 4초에 Twitter는 6939 트이트/매초(TPS)를 기록했다.이 TPS는 지금까지의 기록을 2배 이상 도는 신기록이었다는 것이다.지금까지의 기록은 3283 TPS로 작년 여름의 축구의 월드컵에서 일본이 덴마크에 이겼을 때의 것이다.「자세하게 보면, 1월 1일이 시작되고 나서 3분간에 68회도 지금까지의 TPS의 기록을 웃도는 순간이 있었다」라고 Twitter는 말하고 있다.
어째서 일본에서는 이 시간에 이 정도 방대한 트이트가 흘렀을 것이다？
Oshogatsu(일본의 신년)에 일본은 사실상 활동을 휴지한다.일본인은 이 시간을 가족이나 친한 사람들과 함께 보낸다.사람들은 알게 되어 전원과 메세지를 교환하고 정을 서로 확인하는 습관이다.1억 2700만의 인구를 거느리는 일본에서는, 설날의 인사로 가끔 휴대망이 크래쉬 해 왔다.금년은 많은 일본인이 Twtter의 이용으로 전환한 것 같다.
그러나, Twitter의 유저수로 말하면, 미국이 일본보다 훨씬 많다.그렇다면 미국인은 신년을 축하하는 것을 게을리하고 있 것일까？ 아니, 원인은 미국에는 많은 시간대가 있다고 하는 사실에 있었다.즉 신년이 시작되는 순간이 3개(하와이도 들어갈 수 있으면 4개)의 시간대에 분산되어 버린다.Twitter에 의하면, 「동부 표준시간대만으로도 피크시에는 3000 TPS 를 기록했다.이것은 월드컵 시에 세계 전체로 기록된 최고 TPS에 강요하는 것이었다」라고 한다.즉 만약 미국이 하나의 시간대였다고 하면 여전히 우리가 최고 TPS의 기록 보관 유지자일거라고 말하는 것이다.
