According to local newspaper La Provence, Hatem Ben Arfa held negotiations with coach Didier Deschamps on Wednesday with the aim of resolving his status in the OM squad. The winger was keen to be assured of first team football next season, but he was not given the backing he wished and is therefore liable to leave the Ligue 1 champions.
England would appear to be the most likely destination for the mercurial attacker, who has previously attracted interest from the likes of Manchester United and Everton. There is, however, no indication as to a probable destination beyond simply the Premier League.
Meanwhile, Deschamps has evaded passing comment on rumours linking OM to CSKA Moscow star Keisuke Honda.
“Who? Oh, Honda! I thought it was a motorcycle you were speaking about! And then? I must comment on that? The most important names are the ones I have in my head,” Deschamps joked with the press
Marseille have struggled to make progress in the transfer market this summer, despite reports linking them to a plethora of players, including Honda and Luis Suarez.
